Project Background
A long-term client in the port logistics sector required a full replacement of the aging hydraulic power unit (HPU) and control system on their shiploader’s mobile gantry. The existing system, dating back to the 1980s, had become unreliable but was still in daily use as the port’s only bulk loading equipment for grain and feed products.
Challenges
The original hydraulic system was built into a retrofitted 20ft container located 20 meters above dock level, creating significant maintenance challenges.
The equipment had to remain operational until installation of the new system to avoid disruption to vessel loading schedules.
A fire incident in 2023 destroyed the old container and wiring, requiring emergency engineering and accelerated delivery.
Yongjian’s Solution
Yongjian engineered and delivered a complete independent hydraulic power system with fully integrated control solutions. The design included:
A newly modified 20ft container housing the full HPU, featuring:
Full fire-proof insulation
Internal protective cladding and custom flooring
Integrated ventilation
Main hydraulic circuit driven by a 100kW, 3300V AC motor + proportional control pump
Redundant 400V AC backup system powered by external genset for chute retrieval during outages
Full electrical control cabinet with interface to shiploader PLC
System cooling, filtration, and real-time monitoring
Outcome
Despite geopolitical and pandemic-related delays, the system was successfully delivered, tested, and installed within an accelerated timeframe. Yongjian engineers also replaced damaged stainless steel tubing and flexible hoses on-site. The entire system was lifted into position, commissioned on budget and on schedule.
The upgraded gantry HPU is now in stable operation, ensuring reliable loading performance and minimal downtime for at least the next 30 years. The client expressed high satisfaction with Yongjian’s technical competence and responsive service.
