A single oil analysis result is a snapshot. For maintenance decisions, the trend and the operating context often matter more: rising particle counts after a repair, water saturation during wet weather or a filter differential-pressure change can point to different problems.
Choose measurements tied to a decision
Particle counts help track solid contamination against a component-based cleanliness target. Water sensors may report relative saturation; laboratory tests can provide a different measure of water content. Temperature and viscosity help interpret both. HYDAC offers portable and online sensors for these variables, but an instrument must be installed and calibrated for the actual fluid and flow conditions. Define what action a warning will trigger before collecting more data.
Comprobaciones técnicas
- Use the same sampling point and operating state for comparisons.
- Record fluid temperature, running hours and recent maintenance.
- Separate sudden step changes from gradual drift.
- Compare readings with filter status and visual inspection.
- Confirm surprising online data with a controlled sample.
Un error habitual que hay que evitar
A declining particle count after a filter change does not prove that water, varnish or wrong viscosity has been corrected. Each failure mode needs a measurement that actually detects it.
Datos que hay que enviar junto con la solicitud
- Fluid type and component cleanliness requirements.
- Target variables, alarm limits and sample interval.
- Sensor installation and calibration details.
- Data owner and maintenance response procedure.
The best monitoring plan is one that maintenance staff can repeat and act on consistently. For related selection guidance, see our oil cleanliness code guide.
Nota de campo
Select one or two decisions that a trend can change, such as a filter inspection or a search for water ingress. If the data cannot trigger a defined action, collecting more readings may add cost without improving reliability. Review alarm thresholds after enough baseline operation.
